Gibson ES 325

Recently got my hands on a copy of the new Kings of Leon DVD "Live at the O2 London"

The O2 gig (tight performance but some what lacking in personality from the band and interaction with the crowd) aside I have rekindled my love for the Gibson semi-hollow body guitars after seeing Caleb's very nice walnut ES 325. These guitars can be hard to find given Gibson only manufactured them from 1972-79 and they are quite different in construction and sound to the more well known and readily available ES 335.
It was surprising to hear that Caleb recently smashed his no#1 guitar after all these years during the T in the Park Festival. He obviously regretted his actions having since sent it back to Gibson for repair. Checkout the repair job some amazing photo's. here

Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone

I don't mind this clip, looks to be getting a fair rubbishing on youtube from disgruntled fans. I don't really buy into Alex's apparent longing for his ex-girlfriend but that doesn't take away from the fact that it still makes for a nice sing along. I definately like this more than the clip for Cyring Lightning, but I can't help but think the story line in the lyrics could have made for a really interesting story line in video. I am yet to purchase the new Arctic Monkeys album but I have been pretty pleased with what I've heard thus far and I do enjoy the vocal performance Alex has turned in on this particular track.

Sounds like the Electro Harmonix Pulsar is still getting a decent work out too on some nice but simple lead parts. Jamie Cook’s pedal board pictured below. Checkout more info on the Arctic Monkey's specific gear at..

Dan Boeckner's Guitar Pedals

As I'm currently obsessed with the Handsome Furs I've tracked down this picture of Dan's pedals taken by Tim O'Connor. Can anyone help me out with what the two pedals are in the middle? If you do know what they are leave a comment..

I can see:

- Boss TU-2 Tuner
- Boss DS-1 Distortion
- ?
- ?
- Boss DD-20 Giga Delay
- Electro HarmonixMicro POG

Also while we're at it, does anyone know what drum machine Alexei Perry uses?

Handsome Furs

The Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Thursday 27th August 2009

I couldn't wait to see the Furs play after only recently stumbling across their new album "Face Control" a few months earlier on Triple R. Needless to say they have been on high rotation during every possible aspect of my day to day life ever since. If you haven't heard them yet checkout myspace.com/handsomefurs

For some reason or another I have not been able to get enough of Dan Boeckner's howling vocals and squealing guitar, just as much as I have not been able to get enough of Alexei Perry's drum machine and that hand clap, oh that hand clap! I'm torn, I don't know whether to save up my hard earned dollars to buy a '72 Fender Telecaster Thineline or a Spartan Drum Machine.

Anyways I knew I was going to sleep well after hearing Dan grumble out the first line "Her dress was dark and clean" to my favourite song, Evangeline. You always know your seeing an artist give all they have when you can visibly see the spit flying from their mouths only to hit the eager first rowers and I was just as amused at this sight as I was Alexei's apparent gymnastic ability. They both seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves and be genuinely appreciative of the crowd that had attended. Apparently Dan and band mates have decided to alternate yearly between side projects and their largely successful Indie/Experimental/Other band Wolf Parade, we have that to looked forward to in 2010.

I'll Blog sometime in the near future on Dan Boeckner's Pedals.
